Q. I got my domain registered with another we/hosting company and now I can't get it back. Can you move my domain from another web company? 

A. We believe that web companies should make sure that domains registered for clients are registered in the clients name, not that of the web company. You can check whether that os the case for your site by clicking on that link http://www.whois.net and putting in your website's details.

We generally advise strongly against companies (typically allegedly cheap companies) who register client's domains in their own names as not only can clients not get them back if the company has not been careful in storing the details, but clients don't even own them offically and there are substantial tax implications in transfering the names of trading entities from a web company to the 'client'.  In the UK Nominet's terms and conditions state that comapnaies registering domain names must use their customer’s contact details. They may only register a domain name for a customer in their own name, with the explicit prior written consent of you, the customer.  However, the regulatory authority for such transfers is ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) which has passed over the registration of domains to over 1,500 accredited registrars each with their own policies and procedures for registering, maintaining and handling disputes regarding domains. Registrars do not accept liability for any dispute and the UK courts have maintained this protection for registrars.

In our experience the end result is that you never get back you domain if it is registered by rogues.

You'll know because we will be down as the technical contact. However if you have the domains registered with a third party while we can attempt to get you domain names back it is very time consuming and skilled and we charge on a daily consulting fee basis (i.e. our standard fee x2) with a minimum block of time of half a day, paid in advance.
