Summary of what's new on the National Web Design Website
General Terms and Conditions PDF Print E-mail
  1. National Web Design 90 day Guarantee
National Web Design guarantees that any coding errors or errors added to supplied materials (e.g. typos) will be corrected free of charge during the first 90 days of site or software operation. We will start to address critical errors immediately we are told about them within normal working hours. Critical errors are ones stopping the site or system from working in some way. We will start to address non-critical errors in less than one working week. This guarantee applies to existing work and is not an offer to add new features to a solution after delivery. This guarantee also applies to updates and amendments added by National Web Design. The guarantee is void if the client or any third party has changed any part of the site or code as we can no longer be certain of functionality of code or veracity of text. In certain circumstances National Web Design can roll back existing web sites or solutions to the original installation condition for a roll-back charge of 20% at which point they are once again are covered by our 90 day Guarantee.
  2. Timing of National Web Design Projects
Projects are generally allocated a specific team and block (or blocks) of time for execution. There is generally a very high demand on expert staff time, who will have had work scheduled to leave the period of the project planning and system architecture clear, as well as technical staff time who again will have work scheduled to leave time for work on your project. If allocated planning time is spent waiting for essential information or other materials from the client, or preparing material which then cannot be used due to the client not providing other required materials on time, then this will be accruing cost to the company exactly as if the work was able to progress as scheduled, and in cases where it affects the work flow, time wasted will be deducted from the amount of time indicated in the proposal.  Likewise if implementation work is delayed due to the client or his service providers causing the project to fall outside its allocated period, time wasted will be deducted from the amount of time indicated in the proposal.
At the project start the client will provide all materials the client wishes to have taken into account in any research and planning or used in implementation (e.g. current product details for online shops or web marketing campaigns designed to bring in qualified leads, a valid credit card number and authorization to use it up to a certain amount for pay-per-click adverts, authorization to set up pay-per-click accounts and campaigns for testing and research purposes where applicable, text or images to be used, etc.). During the project the client will provide feedback or responses to questions within 1 working day unless a different response time is agreed above.
  3. Professional Indemnity for National Web Design projects
In addition to our in-house practices and reputation National Web Design and Software services offer you the additional assurance that our work is covered by Hiscox Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance (Policy reference: 1364062).

In particular fees do not include upgrades and changes from specification. Free software upgrades including patches and bug fixes will be provided for server software. All upgrades including custom and bespoke software upgrades will be made at standard hourly rates if requested. Hosting contracts include preventative maintenance and remote monitoring and diagnosis of system problems. On site service calls and telephone support falling outside the warranty are chargeable at standard rates. Telephone enquiries during business hours will generally be logged for action immediately. We will make best efforts to address mission critical issues (i.e. ones that stop the operation of your system) immediately. Non mission critical issues will be queued for fair treatment with other clients' projects.

MK2 Based Staff PDF Print E-mail

First of all make sure that  everyone in the group has got, and watched the training video from National Web Design.  Discuss it and talk to each other about how it relates to helping clients. Also look at the printable notes which you can download here .

Our aim is to offer a Consultative Process, not a hard sell to prospects. We are a friendly company so make sure that you always smile when you talk to prospects by phone. (e.g. have a picture or series of pictures that make you smile pinned up and look at them as you start your call.)

Remember you are trying to Engage people in a natural conversation to Identify a Core Problem That We Can Solve.

Many prospects have been ripped off or floundered with under achieving web sites provided by other companies.

We've asked prospects "Are you satisfied with"

  1. the performance of your web site?
  2. your current web company

Many are not - we can help them

We've asked "In the last 12 months"

  1. Have you generated leads using your web site?
  2. Have you increased sales using your web site?

If they haven't its a great shame and a loss of opportunity for them

We've also asked "In the next 12 months do you have plans for eCommerce?" and "Do you have"

  1. issues with maintainability of your web site that would be solved if you had a web site that could be maintained by someone in your company with a minimum of training?
  2. a web site that needs refreshing?

These are two of the problems that we can solve for our clients.

We have three main things to offer from the call centre.

  1. PowerWeb: A professional web site that we train clients to update themselves as easily as using a word processor. This type of web site is called a content managed or database web site. We have installed PowerWeb for Technology Companies, World Leading Research Labs, Consulting Firms even Schools. We can make a site to match the companies existing materials, provide pre-made designs or design to look like any site the client likes. The site is search engine optimized and there is no limit to the number of pictures or pages. For clients wanting a web site update of to refresh their web site we can start with their existing web site and give it a new, up to date look and feel or start completely afresh using PowerWeb.
  1. Shop in a Box: A highly effective ecommerce shop - a bit like Amazon.com - that we set up completely for the client and train clients to update themselves. It contains a shopping cart and can integrate with clients own payment system. Clients regualrly turn over tens of thousands of items and hundreds of thousands of pounds a year from shops of this type set up by us.
  2. PowerSearch: An award winning web marketing service that combines Search Engine Optimization, pay-per-click ads and email list management to get a continual stream of leads to the clients web site. We have taken web sites from no traffic at all to 5000 pounds a day turnover in just a few weeks and got a number of web sites to number one position on Google, Yahoo, MSN and Live.com against stiff competition. If you are going to have a business that actually succeeds on the Internet you will need a service like this and we are the UK Leaders in our price range.

We can also offer bespoke and custom services - where we make any piece of software, computer program or web based system that the client needs - make specailly for the client's company. Typically prices would start at about the same as 1-3 above upwards. Check that that is the clients expectation.

It is important to qualify leads - to check pre-meeting - so that we are not leading the prospect on or disappointing them. This can be done in a follow-up call. Check all of these before confirming the meeting.

  1. Budget? Is the solution that they are interested in their budget range?
  2. Benefit? Do they believe that the web can help them? Without the "buy-in" - the belief that companies in their sector can benefit substantially from a web presence. Remember we don't do hard sell we can educate and demonstrate which oftn impresses companies who can see the benefits but we are not geared up for convicing the unconvinced.
  3. Do you have any particular problems that a great web site/strategy might solve? Need to reach growth targets; untapped markets; rivals companies etc?
  4. Will all decision makers be present? We can only have a meeting if all decision makers are present.
  5. Does a web site/strategy fit in with their company's overall plans? Is it something that they think will be important or just an add on.
If this questions 3 and 5 seems silly to the clients it may be because they may not have been included in discussions at the level that we need to address within their own company. You can blame it on "consulting" who have asked you to get this information (we have right here!), but say that they always have reasons for question like this which allow them to help the client to get the best out of things (and there are very good reasons).

The Recruitment Process PDF Print E-mail

The National Web Design Recruitment Process typically comprises

Having a Telephone Interview with National Web Design

  1. We at National Web Design are looking for the very best candidates who can make a very positive impression on our clients as well as any team members working with them or reporting to them. The Telephone interview is a pre-screening process and has no fixed structure and questions.  Progress will depend on your CV and your reactions and responses through the interview process. For roles which are both managerial and client facing we will be looking at both explicit and implicit, verbal and non-verbal responses. It is in the nature of our work that the telephone is often the first point of contact and if not exceptional will be the last point too with many customers.
  2. Remember to start off (and continue) professionally. Even if you are at home show us how good you will be at work on the phone. You'll need to think quickly and be resourceful. Typically an interview might start with you being asked to tell us about yourself. Keep it brief and without hype. You'll need to think quickly and on-the-fly. You may be asked to tell us about your strengths. And weaknesses. Don't worry if we go onto other things quickly at any time.
  3. You might be asked why you choose to interview with National Web Design and what you know about us. We'd expect that you have read the web site. We appreciate that it is under development and you can mail us suggestions. Tell us how we compare with other employers for you.
  4. We might ask why National Web Design should hire you? Remember we are competing - and aiming to dominate - a highly competitive market and generally hiring from the top 1% of candidates. Are you a perfectionist? Can you work on a team? Can you work from a set of instructions or operations manual? How about independently. These are by no means mutually exclusive - typically people who baulk at following rules or manuals can't work independently either. Remember, throughout the process we expect complete, 100% honesty at National Web Design - its an essential part of the company ethos. That doesn't mean bluntness, or not putting your case across in the best possible light.
  5. We are looking at long term development with the best candidates growing as the company grows rapidly. We might ask you to tell us where you want to be in 5 years? 10 years? What would keep you in a job at that stage - what are your ideal targets? We can understand how well you fit with the plans for the position from this, but it is a place for us to learn from you.

Ask yourself: Have I made myself properly informed? Am I compensating for the reduced nonverbal communication? Are my  answers brief and focused?

Providing Job References for National Web Design

After the Telephone Interview we will  ask the recruiter for three referees who we will contact by phone. One should be you current employer or educator if possible (please say why if not). It will be your responsibility to make sure that you contact them to make sure that they are willing. We normally work by using the institutional address of the referee to confirm that the referee is actually at the institution claimed.

If the Telephone Interview and References give a suitable outcome we will then progress to a face-to-face Interview.

Orientation PDF Print E-mail

Basic Knowledge and Understanding.

Everyone who works for us should read this and all the links leading off this page.

We are keen that our basic values are shared across our organization. We are very open about this and are quite willing to let  members of the public and customers know what we do and how we do it wherever possible.

  1. Policies relating to Decision Makers in Client Companies
  2. Our policies and strategies and management techniques are based on the book the E-Myth - which structures how excellence can be made a standard throughout the organization and the One Minute Manager.  You can find these in the Reading List.
  3. Current and ongoing recruitment drives in the UK
    1. Web Design Projects Programme Leader . We are aiming to create the best positions in Web Design Management and Web Design Programme and Project Leadership in the UK and these positions are open to fast-track promotion as you work with us to grow the company.
    2. Location, Milton Keynes or Buckingham in the UK and National Web Design IT Services Centre 3, Goa
    3. How good do you need to be? Typically we select staff in the top 1% of ability or performance group. This is not purely on academic performance but it's worth nothing that recently undergraduate degrees give the top 10% of students First Class Degrees so we are generally looking for the best of those. Be very clear about this - we are not just saying this to impress or boast - this is the threshold of competence needed to train effectively serve our clients in a manner that we require. Needless to say - almost all the wannabes on the UK series of "The Apprentice" -  would fail in terms of too much hype, poor organization, poor business sense and inablity to learn. We may be more polite and kind than Alan Sugar, but we have less tolerance for incompetents than he has.

If all your friends think that you should have been at an IIT then maybe -just maybe you are up to scratch [cartoon].
  5. Being based in Goa - what does it involve?
Everything we do is set to high standards outlined in our Operations Manual. For quick reference you can look at some of our standards here. Again these are here for a reason. Read them and make sure thay are done.

Paid Time Off Plans
National Web Design gives employees and contractors in the UK and offshore a paid time-off plan. We believe in empowering employees and creating an atmospher of trust. Paid Time Off Plan is a more flexible arrangement that gives the employee a set amount of days off to be used at the employee's discretion. These days can be used for sick time, personal days, vacations, moving days and doctor appointments or for whatever reason the employee may need time off. This puts the responsibility and flexibility for managing time off in the hands of the employee - there is no need to apply or fill out paperwork or explain - the time is your to do as you please.

The amount of days off generally accumulates through years of service and performance.

The rollover date for paid time off is always 1st of January. Unlike most companies National Web Design lets employees and contractors carry 50% of unused vacation days over to the next calendar year. Unused days expore on 1st January.  We believe employees need time to recharge and chill out so National Web Design does not pay cash for vacation days that are not taken by the end of the calendar year. If an employee leaves the company unused vacation days convert to a 'gardening leave'.

When you plan your vacation, you may need to notify managers and your HR department to get clearance. This is particularly important if you want to take time off during common holiday seasons, such as in August or at the end of the year. Early notification allows for advance planning to reduce the burden on your colleagues while you are away, and to minimize the backlog of work when you return.

Organizations commonly provide nine or ten days per year as public holidays, although there is no standard. Federal holidays, or legal public holidays, are recognized by Congress but are not observed by all employers.

Legal public holidays are recognised for the country in which the employee is working in at the time (i.e. where the night before the holiday is spent.

National Web Design reserves the right to schedule work hours during holidays. Those scheduled to work on these days may be compensated at a premium. Employee may observe religious holiday from their PTO allocation.

Public Duty

Jury duty. National Web Design allows employees to take paid time off if they are called for jury duty compensating employees at their regular base rate of pay. If you are called for jury duty, National Web Design will likely require you to obtain verification that you have served from the court for administrative purposes. If your jury is excused earlier than the close of business, you will need to report to work.

Military Duty & Special Constabulary.
Employees who are members of the reserve forces or Special Constabulary may be subject to weekend duty, annual training duty, or short-term emergency duty. We actively encourge participation and suggest employees opt for our Extended Leave Contract (Schedule B). National Web Design does not generally compensate employees for leave due to military service or Special Constabulary, but grant's indefinite leave (by prior arrangement) between projects (or during projects in a declared national emergency) for such duty. Employees with suitable backgrounds wishing to serve as Magistrates in the UK are actively encouraged in their civic duty and we suggest employees opt for the Extended Leave Contract (Schedule B). National Web Design does not generally compensate employees for service in Magistrates courts.

Bereavement leave.
National Web Design will grant paid time off for employees bereaved by the death of an immediate family member or a close relative. employees are allowed three days off with pay, and no pay for any additional time, unless PTO is available to cover the period. Advanced notice for a bereavement leave is not required. Siblings, a spouses, parents and children are considered immediate family.

Cox and Box PDF Print E-mail

The phrase Cox and Box is used to descibe two people who prove are impossible to get together at the same time for a meeting.

Jim Cox and John Box are listed in the Chamber's dictionary as "two people who never meet, or who alternate in a place, job, etc.".
