Project Leaders' Responsiblities It is absolutely mandatory that Project Leaders maintain our prescribed levels of communication. It is only on this basis that any Project Leader can continue to work with us. - The Project Leader must communicate with the client
on a daily basis. Wherever possible this will be face-to-face (for
large projects with dedicated teams) or by Skype (for all other
projects regardless of size). The Project Leader will arrange a regular
time to Skype the client each day during the project. If the project
manager is not able to make a call on certain days he or she will
either arrange for a substitute to call up to report or will tell the
client at the previous Skype meeting that they will not be available
for the next routine call and will arrange a time for the next one.
Someone on the project team should always be briefed so that if the
project manager is not able to make their call at the appropriate time
due to an emergency (accident, serious illness etc) the substitute can
either replace them for the Skype report (most satisfactory), or Skype
a message explaining what has happened and keep the client informed
about progress of the project (lowest satisfactory level).
If
the client is not available at the arranged time the Project leader
should try again at least once after 5 minutes and should send a
summary by email of the current position of the project.
It is
expected that generally the Skype call will last no more than 10
minutes and that the Project Leader will figure any expenses for
communication into the original estimate. Project Leaders may arrange a
series of client calls at 10 minute intervals in order to use
management time efficiently.
- The Project Leader must enter a project report into the administration system at http://admin-nationalwebdesign.co.uk
on a daily basis. Techies often find this sort of thing very difficult,
but clients have the right to know exactly where the project has
reached any time they call in, and this is the way that we make sure
that completely up to date information on every project is available to
Managers. Entering this infromation on a daily basis is therefore mandatory for the Project Leade's and again it is only on this basis that any Project Leader can work with us.
- The Project Leader must communicate with the Engagement Manager
at our HQ on a daily
basis by Skype (for all projects regardless of
size). The Project Leader will arrange a regular time to Skype each day
during the project. If the project manager is not able
to make a call on certain days he or she will either arrange for a
substitute to call up to report or will tell the Engagement Manager at
the previous
Skype meeting that they will not be available for the next routine
call, and
will arrange a time for the next one. This ensures that the Engagement
Manager is always fully briefed on every project. It is expected that
generally the Skype call will last no more than 10
minutes as the engagement manager will have a number of project
managers to liaise with. The Project Leader will figure any expenses
for this
communication into the original estimate too.

Q. Can I always see my work as it progresses?
A. The answer is - yes we normally try tp keep you up to date as the work progresses but it is not always possible.
- Normally you can see a content managed siter or ecommerce shop as it is built up.
- On the other hand templates, particularly HTML templates from
graphics that have already been approved may not be ready to show
until the CSS has been coded.
- Flash files in particular may not be ready to show until they are
nearly ready although the designer may be able to show you sketches at
the beginning.Tthis is becauseflash file is not actually an animation in the sense of a
cell-by-cell animated cartoon but is actually programming code (like
the examples at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:As2_bounceball.png)
also see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macromedia_Flash#Programming_language . Even once the designer has got to nearly finishing, during development the code
will not run by itself (in much the same way that half way through
cosmetic surgery you might not want to get on the catwalk) - setting it
to run on other people's computers is the last stage.
So a screen grab may not not show sketches or the first half of an
animation - only a mass of code and maybe a few graphics elements at
this stage. On special request we can try to get a demo together
partway through the project - but it may stop the
creative process completely and delay the project's completion. we
normally have to charge for the extra time. Remember its not just a
screen shot taking a few seconds - it involves stopping the project and
making an unplanned-for mock-up.
