Basic Knowledge and Understanding. Everyone who works for us should read this and all the links leading off this page. We are keen that our basic values are shared across our organization. We are very open about this and are quite willing to let members of the public and customers know what we do and how we do it wherever possible. - Policies relating to Decision Makers in Client Companies
- Our policies and strategies and management techniques are based on the book the E-Myth - which structures how excellence can be made a standard throughout the organization and the One Minute Manager. You can find these in the Reading List.
- Current and ongoing recruitment drives in the UK
- Web Design Projects Programme Leader . We are aiming to create the best positions in Web Design Management and Web Design Programme and Project Leadership in the UK and these positions are open to fast-track promotion as you work with us to grow the company.
- Location, Milton Keynes or Buckingham in the UK and National Web Design IT Services Centre 3, Goa
- How good do you need to be? Typically we select staff in the top 1% of
ability or performance group. This is not purely on academic performance but it's worth nothing that recently undergraduate degrees
give the top 10% of students First Class Degrees so we are generally
looking for the best of those. Be very clear about this - we are not just saying this to impress or boast - this is the threshold of competence needed to train effectively serve our clients in a manner that we require. Needless to say - almost all the wannabes on the UK series of "The Apprentice" - would fail in terms of too much hype, poor organization, poor business sense and inablity to learn. We may be more polite and kind than Alan Sugar, but we have less tolerance for incompetents than he has.

Paid Time Off Plans National Web Design gives employees and contractors in the UK and offshore a paid time-off plan. We believe in empowering employees and creating an atmospher of trust. Paid Time Off Plan is a more flexible arrangement that gives the employee a set amount of days off to be used at the employee's discretion. These days can be used for sick time, personal days, vacations, moving days and doctor appointments or for whatever reason the employee may need time off. This puts the responsibility and flexibility for managing time off in the hands of the employee - there is no need to apply or fill out paperwork or explain - the time is your to do as you please. The amount of days off generally accumulates through years of service and performance.
| Years of service | Standard Contract (Schedule A)
| Extended Leave Contract (Schedule B) Represents 10% of overall package | Part Time Contract (Schedule C). Half-time package

The rollover date for paid time off is always 1st of January. Unlike most companies National Web Design lets employees and contractors carry 50% of unused vacation days over to the next calendar year. Unused days expore on 1st January. We believe employees need time to recharge and chill out so National Web Design does not pay cash for vacation days that are not taken by the end of the calendar year. If an employee leaves the company unused vacation days convert to a 'gardening leave'.
When you plan your vacation, you may need to notify managers and your HR department to get clearance. This is particularly important if you want to take time off during common holiday seasons, such as in August or at the end of the year. Early notification allows for advance planning to reduce the burden on your colleagues while you are away, and to minimize the backlog of work when you return.
Organizations commonly provide nine or ten days per year as public holidays, although there is no standard. Federal holidays, or legal public holidays, are recognized by Congress but are not observed by all employers.
Legal public holidays are recognised for the country in which the employee is working in at the time (i.e. where the night before the holiday is spent. National Web Design reserves the right to schedule work hours during holidays. Those scheduled to work on these days may be compensated at a premium. Employee may observe religious holiday from their PTO allocation.
Public Duty
Jury duty. National Web Design allows employees to take paid time off if they are called for jury duty compensating employees at their regular base rate of pay. If you are called for jury duty, National Web Design will likely require you to obtain verification that you have served from the court for administrative purposes. If your jury is excused earlier than the close of business, you will need to report to work.
Military Duty & Special Constabulary. Employees who are members of the reserve forces or Special Constabulary may be subject to weekend duty, annual training duty, or short-term emergency duty. We actively encourge participation and suggest employees opt for our Extended Leave Contract (Schedule B). National Web Design does not generally compensate employees for leave due to military service or Special Constabulary, but grant's indefinite leave (by prior arrangement) between projects (or during projects in a declared national emergency) for such duty. Employees with suitable backgrounds wishing to serve as Magistrates in the UK are actively encouraged in their civic duty and we suggest employees opt for the Extended Leave Contract (Schedule B). National Web Design does not generally compensate employees for service in Magistrates courts.
Bereavement leave. National Web Design will grant paid time off for employees bereaved by the death of an immediate family member or a close relative. employees are allowed three days off with pay, and no pay for any additional time, unless PTO is available to cover the period. Advanced notice for a bereavement leave is not required. Siblings, a spouses, parents and children are considered immediate family.

The phrase Cox and Box is used to descibe two people who prove are impossible to get together at the same time for a meeting.
Jim Cox and John Box are listed in the Chamber's dictionary as "two people who never meet,
or who alternate in a place, job, etc.". They originate from Cox and Box; or, The Long-Lost Brothers, is a one-act comic opera with a libretto by F. C. Burnand and music by Arthur Sullivan, based on the farce Box and Cox by John Maddison Morton. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_and_Box

There are two cardinal rules relating to decision makers - At our first business meeting and all subsequent presales meetings all of the client's Decision Makers must be present.
- Prior to making any proposal we must meet all the Decision Makers. If further meetings are needed without a decision maker present, in fairness to paying customers these count as consulting and are billable to the client. Ultimately nothing in life is free and someone ends up by paying for everything of any value in some sense. In any commercial operation it would be paying customers who are supporting the costs of ongoing information gathering meetings by non-decision makers and so in fairness these must be paid for by the potential client.
Even if you main contact at a company has expressed interest in purchasing a National Web Design product or service it is essential for him/her and for us to make sure that everything happens with the key descision makers present.
A potential client may say “We’re
definitely interested” and may even tell you “Yes, I’m the decision maker,”. Our sales and engagement managers will use experience, knowledge and superb technical back-up to find a solution (or range of solutions) that exactly fits the clients needs and should have 'bought into the client's vision' 100%. A proposal will be prepared on that basis and everything done 100% right -
National Web Design way.
Now you’re on the phone with your contact. You’re hoping this will be
your last conversation before they fax the contract through.
Finally you ask, “So, is the agreement ready to be signed?” There’s a
silence, and then you hear the disheartening words: “Oh, I realize that
I should really have Jim Cox, and John Box, look at it before I send it over.”
Talk about being set up to believe everything was going to be smooth
sailing -- now a big wave has overturned the boat and it’s sinking
fast! Why didn’t he tell you he wasn’t the final decision maker? Why
did he lead you on?
Most important, what can you do to stop this from happening again?

Recommended Reading for our Clients and Customers
Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited
not only covers processes fro people starting a
business but allows larger companies to take on the processes that
allow consistency in the more effective larger corporation. The
title refers to the author's belief that entrepreneurs--typically
brimming with good but distracting ideas--make poor businesspeople. It outlines the methods by which an incredibly organised and regimented plan is developed, so that daily
details are scripted, freeing the entrepreneur's mind to build the
long-term success or failure of the business. |
An
easily-read story which quickly demonstrates three very practical
management techniques, it also includes information on several studies
in medicine and in the behavioural sciences, which help readers
understand why these apparently simple methods work so well with so
many people. Starting from the assumption that
people are every company's most important resource, this book sets out
three simple steps to getting the best from them and making every
company run more efficiently.
The
80/20 Principle - that 80% of results come from 20% of the causes - has
greatly influenced today's world: but this is the first book showing
readers how to use it in a practical and systematic way. The pattern of
predictable imbalance which was noted a century ago by Pareto crops up
throughout life, and in The 80/20 Principle Richard Koch opens our eyes
to the way the world really works. He reinforces the principle with
many examples of it in operation - 20% of products account for 80% of
profits, as do 20% of customers; 20% of motorists account for 80% of
accidents...
Most things we do have trivial results, and only a
little of what we do really matters. So if we focus on the latter, we
can control events instead of being controlled by them - and achieve
several times the results.
| The proven techniques
perfected by the world-famous Dale Carnegie sales training programme in book form.
The two questions most often asked by
salespeople are: 'how can I close more sales?' and 'what can I do to
reduce objections?' The answer to both questions is the same: you learn
to sell from a buyer's point of view. Global markets, increased
technology, information overload, corporate mergers and complex
products and services have combined to make the buying/selling process
more complicated then ever. Salespeople must understand and balance
these factors to survive amidst a broad spectrum of competition. THE
SALES ADVANTAGE will enable any salesperson to develop long-term
customer relationships and help make those customers more successful, a
key competitive advantage. The book includes specific advice for each
of the eleven-stage selling process, set out in clear
easy-to-understand prose with numerous case studies. THE SALES
ADVANTAGE is a proven, logical, step-by-step guide that will create
mutually beneficial results for salespeople and customers alike.
| Explains the strategies, tactics, and techniques of
negotiation, covering diverse types of negotiation situations, the
goals of buyers, the power of taking risks, how to make concessions the
smart way, how to negotiate within your own organization, and more.

True or false? In selling high-value products or services: "closing"
increases your chance of success; it is essential to describe the
benefits of your product or service to the customer; objection handling
is an important skill; and open questions are more effective than
closed questions. All false, says Neil Rackham. He and his team studied
more than 35,000 sales calls made by 10,000 sales people in 23
countries over 12 years. Their findings revealed that many of the
methods developed for selling low-value goods just don't work for major
sales. Rackham went on to introduce his SPIN-selling method, where SPIN
describes the whole selling process - Situation questions, Problem
questions, Implication questions, Need-payoff questions. SPIN-selling
provides you with a set of simple and practical techniques which have
been tried in many of today's leading companies with dramatic
improvements to their sales performance.
