Tintin
Can we learn from Herge's Tintin? Over a period of half a century the Belgian author Hergé is known for developing a more mature appreciation of foriegn cultures starting with his positive typecasting in "Tinitin in Tibet" (I wondered if anyone know Hergé's works are available in China?). Should these be banned completely from circulation as is being suggested?
Marketing and MG Rover
Part of MG Rover's problems seemed to lie in product image, appealing to a pipe and carpet slippers market which no longer existed en-mass. It may well be that a new market with a respect for tradition does not have negative feelings about this image and so one of the major things holding back the 25, 45 and 75 range will be overcome.
While the tastes of natural market for MG Rover in the UK may have moved toward a more vibrant, fashion lead approach like Alpha Romeo and BMW, the old solid values of these 50's retro vehicles may well be fully appreciated by buyers of the 'Modern Gentleman'.
This means that the possiblity of a sizable captive market not present in the UK combined with the excellence in production engineering will allow these old 'aunties' a new lease of life and a chance to be fully appreciated for their solid, quiet values. The Chinese have also been quick to update the cars will locally produced low price (but attractive) appropriate to 21 centry cars like LED rear lamps instead of bulbs, up to date in-car entertainment, reversing cameras and twin DVD screens in the backs of the head restraints. Fascinatingly the Telegaph reports that "serious car people roll their eyes when you tell them of Nanjing's proposal to ship bare car bodies 6,000 miles [to the uk]" Presumably these "serious car people" are not aware of which part of the world Honda, Toyota and even Kia are coming from.
