Programme Manager Position PDF Print E-mail
Employer: National Web Design

Location: Milton Keynes/Buckingham/Goa, India

Benefits: Programme Manager required to join a rapidly growing IT organisation to work on client accounts. Using our offshore back end services and our proven business model National Web Design aims to grow from a regionally prominent IT solutions provider to a highly recognised National brand serving SMEs in the next five years.

The company's ethos focusses on business focus, professionalism and ethical standards.

Infrastructure or Application experience required: You will monitor and manage a range of client projects (normally PHP/MySql web based business automation, eCommerce and content management web sites) from specification to completion. Most projects involve detailed customization of GPL solutions to customer needs but many involve design from the ground up.

When in the UK you may accompany the sales team to gather client specifications. You will need to be able to work directly with intelligent, non-technical (or not software literate) customers to extract their business goals and requirements, to see how those caqn be solved with the main solutions that we provide and to scope out additional work needed

To implement the work you will lead and co-ordinate an offshore team in Goa, India both remotely and from Goa. Initial team size under this position 5-8 graduate programmers and designers. We target the most able and capable graduates to join our teams and have a series of established procedures to maintain quality and performance. As the role develops (possibly very early on) you will help to build new teams. It is expected that initially the Programme Manager will spend up to 6 months offshore in Goa. We have chosen Goa for our offshore operations and programming centre because of the extremely pleasent environment, safety and high quality of life for both westerners and locals working there. We have achieved a very high level of penetration into the local business and academic community over the past two years.

Goa is a small former Portuguese colony about the size and population of an English county. Urban conditions are similar to those found in Southern Europe and people are almost without exception very friendly and helpful. Traditional Indian village life exists outside the main cities, but it is a prosperous province and we have not observed the poverty that exists elsewhere in India.
Infrastructure (roads, electricity, internet) quality is good, but highly unreliable and you will need to apply flexiblity, forthought and planning to prevent local infrastructure incidents having an effect on client projects. We have found that this can be achieved pretty much 100% but is a challenge.

You will work closely with UK clients (typically directors of professional service firms and high tech manufacturing firms with turnovers of £2M-£10M) either face-to-face or by video Skype on a day-to-day basis through their projects as you manage them.

The programme manager may also be paid to lead teams from the University of Goa in contributing to Open Source projects to expand our teams and the project manager's reputation in the Open Source world. If you wish to take part in community projects in Goa we have many contacts and will give 100% support to suitable causes.

The package is expected to include high quality air conditioned accomodation and transport in Goa.

We expect excellence throughout our organization and entry level candidates should have a First Class Degree and 2-4 years experience.
